The Employees’ Deposit-Linked Insurance (Amendment) Scheme, 2025

The Government of India, Ministry of Labour and Employment, vide notification no. G.S.R. 476(E), dated 18th July 2025, has amended the Employees’ Deposit-Linked Insurance (Amendment) Scheme, 1976, to relax the eligibility criteria and provide greater financial security and support to the family members of EPF members.

The key changes introduced in the Scheme are:

• Minimum benefit of Rs 50,000/-

A minimum life insurance benefit of Rs. 50,000/- will be provided even if the employee’s average PF balance is less than Rs. 50,000/-

• Benefit for Members who die while in service after a non-contributory period:

If a member passes away within six months of their last contribution received, the EDLI benefit will be admissible, provided the member’s name is not struck off the rolls.

• Consideration of Service Continuity:

Earlier, a gap of even one or two days (such as weekends or holidays) between employment in two establishments led to the denial of minimum EDLI benefits of Rs. 2.5 lakhs and a maximum of Rs. 7 lakhs, as the condition of continuous service of one year was not met. Under the new modifications, a gap of up to 60 days between two employment spells will now be considered continuous service, ensuring eligibility for higher quantum EDLI benefits.
