IT/ITES gets an exemption from certain provisions of the Shops and Establishments Act

The Government of Telangana, vide notification no. G.O.Ms.No. 5, dated 7^th June 2024, has exempted the Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES) and Information Technology Establishments (IT) in Telangana from certain provisions of The Telangana Shops and Establishments Act, 1988, subject to certain conditions. The Exemption will be for a period of four years, effective 30^th May 2024.

Exempted provisions of The Telangana Shops and Establishments Act, 1988 are as follows:

Section 15: Restriction on opening and closing hours.

Section 16: Restriction on daily and weekly hours.

Section 21: Restriction on employment of a young person before 6 AM and after 7 PM (‘Young person’ means a person who has completed 14 years of age, and has not completed 18 years of age.)

Section 23: Restriction on employment of women before 6 AM and after 8:30 PM.

Section 31: Restriction on working on national and festival holidays.
