Digital Accessibility Consultant
Roles & Responsibilities
• Accessibility Strategy: Develop and execute a comprehensive digital accessibility strategy that aligns with our commitment to equity & inclusivity.
• Standards and Guidelines: Stay up-to-date with the relevant accessibility policies and regulations, accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.1 guidelines, BIS Guidelines, ADA / sec 508 of US, industry best practices and implement them into our digital practices.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with design, development, content, and testing teams to ensure accessibility is integrated into the entire digital development process.
• Procurement: Set up Process to ensure all goods and services procured externally also meet the required accessibility standards
• Communication & Content: Train & guide Communications and other teams on accessible communication and content creation
• Accessibility Audits: Conduct regular accessibility audits of our digital assets and platforms, identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary changes.
• Training and Education: Provide training and education to internal teams on digital accessibility best practices, ensuring that accessibility principles become an integral part of their work.
• User Testing: Coordinate user testing with people with disabilities to gather feedback on the accessibility of our digital products and incorporate insights into iterative improvements.
• Remediation and Continuous Improvement: Lead efforts to remediate accessibility issues and track progress towards achieving accessibility goals.
• Compliance Reporting: Prepare and present accessibility compliance reports to executive leadership and other relevant stakeholders.
• External Partnerships: Establish and maintain relationships with external accessibility organizations and experts to stay at the forefront of industry trends and best practices.
Essential Skills & Education
• Expertise: Overall 10+ years of professional experience with a deep understanding of digital accessibility principles. At least 5+ years of experience in leading digital accessibility initiatives.
• Knowledge: Proficiency in WCAG 2.1 guidelines, BIS Standards, RPWD Act requirements, ADA / sec 508 of US requirements and other relevant accessibility regulations.
• Technical Skills: Familiarity with web development technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and ARIA attributes, to identify and address accessibility barriers.
• Leadership and Communication: Proven leadership skills with the ability to communicate complex accessibility concepts effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve accessibility challenges.
• Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
• Empathy: A deep sense of empathy and passion for making digital experiences accessible to all users.
• Portfolio: Demonstrated experience in leading successful digital accessibility initiatives and improving the accessibility of websites and applications.
