The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation, vide circular no. WSU/TDS Issue/E-772040/2026-27/11, dated 13th April 2026, has announced the replacement of Forms 15G and 15H with Form 121. With the discontinuation of the Income Tax Act, 1961, and the initiation of the Income Tax Act, 2025, the previous dual form system that distinguished taxpayers based on age under the Income Tax Act, 1961, has been abolished.
Previously, individuals under the age of 60 were required to submit Form 15G, while senior citizens aged 60 and above utilised Form 15H. Now, Form 121 serves as a unified form for all eligible individuals, regardless of age. According to the Circular, this modification will take effect from 1st April 2026. However, the submission of Form 121 is not compulsory and is intended solely for those taxpayers who wish to avoid tax deductions at source.
Form 121 is a self-declaration form provided by individuals to ensure that no tax is deducted at source (TDS) on specified incomes, such as interest from bank deposits, post office deposits, or other designated incomes, when their total income falls below the taxable threshold. These declarations are made in accordance with Section 393(6) of the Income-tax Act, 2025, in conjunction with Rule 211 of the Income-tax Rules, 2026.
For EPF claims already filed using the old Forms 15G/15H, regional offices have been directed not to return or reject the claims. However, they must follow up with the member to collect the fresh Form 121.
