Shram Suvidha Portal for Voluntary Aadhaar Authentication

The Ministry of Labour and Employment published a notification on 2nd September 2026 regarding the use of Aadhaar authentication on the Shram Suvidha Portal. The notification states that the Shram Suvidha Portal is a unified web-based platform designed to streamline labour law compliance and improve the ease of doing business by serving as a single point of contact between employers and enforcement agencies.
The Government has approved the use of Aadhaar authentication for verifying user details on portal modules, following consultation with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and in accordance with the Aadhaar Authentication for Good Governance Rules, 2020.
Aadhaar authentication on the portal will be voluntary and will utilise only Yes/No authentication and/or e-KYC facilities. The Ministry is required to obtain Aadhaar holders’ consent before conducting authentication and cannot deny services to individuals who refuse or are unable to undergo Aadhaar authentication. Alternative identification documents, including a Voter ID Card, PAN Card, Driving Licence, and Passport, must be accepted.
The notification also supersedes an earlier notification dated 15th May 2026, and comes into effect from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.
