Permission to operate shops and commercial establishments 365 days a year

The Government of Punjab, vide notification no. LabOPSCA/2/2024-5L/495, dated 17th June 2025, has extended the permission granted to all Shops and Commercial Establishments registered under the Punjab Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1958, in the state of Punjab to operate 365 days a year. The permission has been extended for a further period of 1 year, i.e, up to 31st May 2026, subject to certain conditions which are listed in the notification.
It is important to note that the employment of female employees in the night shift (8 PM to 7 AM) in any shops or commercial establishments in Punjab requires permission from the Labour Department and compliance with other conditions as specified in the notification from the Labour Department dated 3rd March 2022.
