No Professional Tax from April 2026

The Government of Odisha, vide an Ordinance dated 21st April 2026, repealed the Odisha State Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments Act, 2000, thereby abolishing the Professional Tax imposed on salaried individuals within the state, effective from April 2026.  Please take note of the following:

• PT deductions from employees’ salaries must cease from April 2026.

• Any outstanding dues for the fiscal year 2025-26 should be settled.

• The annual return for the fiscal year 2025-26 must be submitted within the designated timeline.

• Actions taken under the repealed Act, including assessments, tax payments, notices, and other obligations, will continue to be valid and enforceable in accordance with the repealed Act.
