Kerala Officially Renamed as “Keralam”

The Ministry of Home Affairs has notified that the Kerala (Alteration of Name) Act, 2026 (Act No. 18 of 2026) has come into force with effect from 25th August 2026.
The notification was issued under Section 1(2) of the Act and published in the Gazette of India (Extraordinary). Accordingly, the State of Kerala will henceforth be officially known as “Keralam” with effect from 25th August 2026. The notification gives legal effect to the Act and formally implements the change in the State’s official name.
