EPFO simplifies the transfer claim process when there are overlapping service periods

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation, vide circular no. WSU/TransferClaim/E-52972/2025-26/07, dated 20th May 2025, has directed all its Regional Offices to process the transfer claim of the member even though there are overlapping service periods and not to reject the transfer claim solely on the ground of overlapping service periods. The EPFO has admitted that the overlapping in services can occur due to genuine reasons. Overlapping service may occur when an employee works in more than one establishment at the same period, and accordingly, contributions are paid by more than one employer during the same period.
However, the EPFO has made it clear that there is a genuine need to obtain clarification regarding the overlapping service from the employee/employer. The EPFO can process the claim after obtaining the required clarification.
The EPFO has also clarified that data verification is not to be compromised and reiterated its earlier instruction to process the transfer claims after verifying the data accurately to ensure error-free transfer.
