EPFO introduces UAN generation & activation through the UMANG App

The Employees Provident Fund Organisation, in its effort to simplify UAN generation and activation, has launched a system of UAN generation and activation using the Aadhaar Face Authentication Technology (FAT) through the UMANG mobile app.

The EPFO, vide circular no. WSU/MemberProfile/E-710137/2025-26/17, dated 8^thApril 2025, has introduced the following facilities in the UMANG App leveraging the Face Authentication Technology, for employees/members:

1. Direct UAN allotment and activation

2. UAN activation for existing UANs

3. Face Authentication Service for existing activated UANs

The EPFO further stated that the only requirement for availing this facility is to download the UMANG App and Adhaar Face RD App from the Play Store. The aforementioned facility can be availed by the members themselves using their smartphones without any intervention from the EPFO/Employer. Additionally, the facility to download e-UAN cards in PDF format is also available.

According to the circular, the key benefits of using FAT are as follows:

• Foolproof validation of Aadhaar data as all the data of the user is pre-populated directly from the Aadhaar database, and completion of the UAN activation process during the UAN generation itself.

• UAN is activated immediately. There would be no requirement for the initiation of the UAN activation process afresh.

• Once the UAN is activated, members will gain immediate access to EPFO services such as passbook viewing, KYC updates, claim submission, etc.
