Draft Rule regarding amendment to conditions for employing women during night shift – Gujarat

The Government of Gujarat, vide notification dated 11th June 2026, has released a draft concerning the Gujarat Shops and Establishment (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) (Amendment) Rules, 2025. Once finalised, this Rule will supersede Rule 11 of the Gujarat Shops and Establishment (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 2020, which addresses the conditions for the employment of women during night shifts.

The draft notification specifies certain conditions for employing women on night shifts within shops and establishments, along with a format for self-declaration by the employer. The said draft rule will be taken into consideration by the Government of Gujarat on or after the expiry of thirty days from the date of its publication. Any objections or suggestions which may be received by the Deputy Secretary (Labour), Labour, Skill Development and Employment Department, Block No.5, 6th Floor, Sachivalaya, Gandhinagar or via e-mail id: ds-labour-led@gujarat.gov.in from any person with respect to the said draft on or before the expiry of the aforesaid period will be considered by the Government.
