The Government of Bihar, vide ordinance no. 1, 2026, dated 1st June 2026, has officially repealed the Bihar Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 2025.
This repeal is a direct result of the implementation of the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020. Due to overlap between the provisions of the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020, and those of the Bihar Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 2025, it has become essential to repeal the aforementioned enactment.
Furthermore, it has been clarified that any proceedings initiated under the repealed Act will proceed as if the Act had not been repealed.
