Madhya Pradesh Shops and Establishments (Second Amendment) Act, 2025

The Government of Madhya Pradesh, through a notification dated 15th December 2025, has made amendments to the Madhya Pradesh Shops and Establishments Act of 1958. The key features of this amendment are summarised below:

  1. A centralised computerised platform for inspections (Central Inspection System) has been established to schedule, allocate, conduct, and monitor inspections under the Act.
  2. The Act now includes provisions for the registration of establishments via a designated web portal.
  3. Upon the submission of a registration application and the accurate payment of the prescribed fee, a registration certificate will be automatically generated on the portal.
  4. The registration fee shall not exceed INR 2500/- per establishment.
  5. The requirement for the renewal of the registration certificate has been eliminated.
  6. The process for amending the registration certificate and for the closure of establishments will be online.
  7. The selection of establishments for inspection will be determined by the central inspection system.
  8. No inspector shall exercise their powers in an establishment employing no more than twenty employees, unless authorised by the Labour Commissioner or an officer designated by him.
