The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation, vide circular dated 28th November 2025, has directed all its field units to consider the revised definitions of “Dependent” and “Family” given under The Code on Social Security, 2020, while extending the relevant benefits to eligible persons.
According to the revised provisions, a widower and a grandparent are now recognised under the definition of “dependent” and are thus eligible for dependent benefits. Likewise, the Father-in-law and Mother-in-law of a female employee have been incorporated into the definition of “Family” and are eligible for Medical Benefits.
