Advisory on registration of gig and platform workers on the e-Shram portal

The Government of India, Ministry of Labour & Employment, vide circular no. W-11015/15/2024-RW (GPW), dated 16th September 2024, has issued an advisory regarding the registration of aggregators and their platform workers on the e-Shram portal.
“Aggregator” means a digital intermediary for a buyer of goods or user of service to connect with the seller or the service provider, and includes any entity that coordinates with one or more aggregators for providing the services.
“Platform work” means a work arrangement outside of a traditional employer-employee relationship in which organisations or individuals use an online platform to access other organisations or individuals to solve specific problems, or to provide specific services, or any such other activities, that may be notified by the Central Government, in exchange for payment.
A person engaged in or undertaking platform work is called a “Platform Worker”.
