Permission to operate Shops and Commercial Establishments 24/7

The Government of Karnataka vide notification No- E-LD 4 LET 2019, dated 27^th Sept 2024, has permitted all the Shops and Commercial Establishments in the State employing ten or more persons to be open 24/7 basis on all days of the year for a period of three years effective from 27^th Sept 2024. This permission is subject to certain conditions, which are listed in the notification, some of them are as below:

• Every employee in an establishment shall be given at least one whole day a week as a holiday for rest.

• Details of employees who are on holiday shall be exhibited on a daily basis in a conspicuous place in shops or commercial establishments.

• Employees shall not be required to work for more than eight hours in any day and forty-eight hours in any week, and the period of work, including overtime, shall not exceed ten hours in any day and fifty hours in a quarter.

• Women employees can be required to work between 8 pm to 6 am after obtaining their written consent and by providing adequate protection for their dignity, honour, and safety.

• Transport facility shall be provided to women employees who work between 8 pm to 6 am. A notice in this regard shall be exhibited at the main entrance of the shops or commercial establishments.

• All the compliances under The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Preventions, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 shall be strictly adhered to.
