Clarification concerning the operation of shops and establishments 24/7

The Government of Uttarakhand, vide circular dated 17th February 2026, has clarified that there are no restrictions on the opening and closing hours of shops and establishments in accordance with the Uttarakhand Shops and Establishments Act, 2017. Owners are permitted to operate their shops or establishments around the clock, depending on their business needs. Nevertheless, the circular highlights the necessity for working hours and weekly holiday/leave entitlements of employees to adhere strictly to the provisions set forth in the Act, thereby ensuring employee welfare and compliance with labour regulations. This circular has been disseminated to district authorities, labour commissioners, and other pertinent officials for appropriate action.
